Reiki is an ancient healing therapy that was rediscovered in the mid-late 1800's by Dr. Mikao Usui in Japan. It is a
holisitic, gentle, energywork process that assists in physical, mental and emotional healing. Pronounced "Ray-key", the word
Reiki itself means "universal life force."
The Reiki practitioner channels the loving/healing energy with a systematic hands-on treatment technique - this energy is
similar to Chi or Prana. (An example of Reiki in action can be seen in the 1980's movie "My Life" starring Michael Keaton and
Nicole Kidman - Michael is a new dad struggling with cancer - this a is a tear-jerker!)
Reiki can help to alleviate/reduce pain, fatigue, stress and ease effects from both chronic and acute illnesses and
conditions. The result of a Reiki session is a feeling of relaxation and well-being as Reiki harmonizes and balances the body
and mind. I had one friend say, after a 30-minute session, that it was "subtle, yet profound."
What can one expect from a Reiki session? Whatever you wish. You will remain fully clothed and will lie down on a massage
table in a private and comfortable room. All I ask is that you remain open - to receive whatever your body needs/wants. Keep an
open mind and the rest will follow. Our bodies often know what they need (and don't need) to heal themselves - an innate nature
if you will. I had a mentor once who had a wonderful workshop on body wisdom that she titled "Listen to the Whispers Before You
Hear the Shouts!" How true!!!!
